How to be inspired to learn a language

1.  Choose interesting and meaningful materials to read or listen to, eg:
  • TED talks
  • CBC Podcasts
  • Self help guides
  • Science journals
  • Harvard Business Review
  • A local English newspaper (Quebec Chronical Telegraph, Montreal Gazette)
2.  Work at a level that is comfortable = 80% moderately easy and 20% challenging!

3.  Set yourself a clear goal.  Know what you are working toward.

4.  Use the language you are learning to help someone else, eg:
  • tourists in Old Quebec
  • a colleague who is at a different level
  • a Community programme looking for Volunteers, ie: VEQ, Jeffrey Hale Wellness Centre, Morrin Centre, Quebec City Reading Council, Celtic Festival Quebec
  • Visit an English speaking church in Old Quebec (eg St. Andrew's, Holy Trinity, Chalmers Wesley)
  • Join a Toastmasters Group in English in Quebec City
We're always learning and a language is always changing.
